The ancient capital of Meknes contains impressive monuments built by the powerful Muslim ruler, Moulay Ismail. Volubilis are Roman ruins inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and we’ll also visit Moulay Idriss, where Moroccan Islam began.

On this Volubilis day tour, you will get to know three of the most surprising places in Morocco: Volubilis, Moulay Idriss, and Meknes. It is a must-see tour for anyone visiting Fez.
Volubilis is an Amazigh ( Berber ) and Roman city that has been partially excavated in Morocco and is located near the city of Meknes and is usually considered the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Mauritania.
Meknes It is famous for its imperial past, including the remains of Bab Mansour, a massive vaulted entrance, and mosaic. The gate leads to the ancient imperial city. The mausoleum of Sultan Moulay Ismail, who made the city his capital in the 17th century, has courtyards and fountains. To the south, the ruined Hiri Swani ( Sahrij Swani ) is a vast building that was once used as stables and for storing food.
MEKNES & VOLUBILIS DAY TRIP ITINERARY
After picking you up your accommodation at 9:00 in the morning, we will be able to head west until we reach the ancient Roman city where the most important archaeological remains are in Morocco.
In Volúbilis, you will have free time to visit the area. We will be here for as long as you need to, the normal range is between one and two hours. If you wish, at the entrance you can hire an official Tour guide.
After enjoying the magnificent Roman remains, we will approach Moulay Idriss, one of the most important pilgrimage centers in Morocco. It is a small town where you can get to know the most interesting city in less than an hour.
The third stop will be Meknes, the most “modest” of the four imperial cities in Morocco. In Meknes, you will have free time to eat, visit the most important places in the city, enter its market or enjoy a coffee in the square.
Around 6 pm, we will return to Fez. We will bring you to the hotel or wherever you want.
