This 4-day Marrakech to Erg Chigaga Desert Tour takes you into this unique nation’s stunning landscapes, colorful culture, and enchanting atmosphere.
1st Day: Marrakech - High Atlas - Ouarzazate - Agdez
Setting off from Marrakesh and beginning our adventure through the Atlas Mountains, we will travel for miles as we marvel at stunning and isolated Berber villages. We will stop on the way to enjoy the beautiful scenery.
At midday, we will arrive at Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou to visit this famous spot, a World Heritage Site where many famous films were filmed. We will continue to Ouarzazate ( The African Hollywood), which includes the largest film studios.
We will continue our journey across the rocky anti-Atlas followed by Berber villages until we reach Agdez where we spend the first night of our trip.
2nd Day: Agdez - Zagora -Tamegroute - Mhamid - Chigaga Dunes
We continue our journey through the Draa Valley and Zagora, where traces of an Almoravid stronghold may still be seen. It passes through Tamagrout, which is located beside the Draa River, The Kingdom’s oldest library is located in this small town.
After passing through the village of Mhamid, you will be amazed by the huge sand dunes of Chiigaga, where we go camel riding to meet one of the most amazing views of the dunes we can ever see, a wonderful sunset in the middle of the high dunes. Tonight we will stay at an Equipped camp and enjoy a wonderful starry sky.
3rd Day: Chigaga Dunes - Iriki Lake - Foum Zguid - Ouarzazate
Once we return from the Chigaga Dunes, we continue towards the naturally dry Lake of Iriki, which thirty years ago was full of water and many migratory birds. We then pass the small and quiet village of Foum Zguid, crossing the off-road to rejoin the regular road. Next, we stop in Taznakht, which was once a major trading center for this vast region and is home to one of the largest carpet manufacturing sites in the Kingdom.
We will continue to Ouarzazate where we will spend the night in the city centre at a Riad or hotel.
4rth Day: Ouarzazate - Ait ben haddou - Atlas - Marrakech
Your trip’s last day will be spent wandering the Kasbah of Telouet, home of the Glaoui dynasty, who was granted governmental authority throughout Morocco below the High Atlas Mountains by King Moulay Hassan. Although the palace is gradually collapsing and is subjected to more damage, it is still open for visitors to take a look at it. The property was undergoing restoration in 2010. After stopping for lunch at the Tichka Pass, you will continue driving directly to Marrakech.
